SERVICES

When looking for an editor, you want someone you can trust.

Your book is a work of art. And like other art, it must speak to your audience. If your book is riddled with errors and inconsistencies, your readers won't enjoy it as they should. Nothing can damage your author reputation more. This is why an editor is so important. Readers don't give second chances for first impressions, so do it right the first time.

What services do you offer?

I am, first and foremost, a book editor. I provide line, heavy copy, and light copy editing. I also provide my services as a proofreader. Whatever services you require, I will do my best to do the job for you or find someone who can.

I do offer discounted packages for services combined. For the sake of your manuscript, I can't proofread a book that I have line edited.

Please reserve a free consultation, then email a 1000 word sample of your manuscript to me. I will gauge your needs to provide you with an estimate that benefits us both.

"Wait, what is a copy edit?"

Good question. A copy edit addresses grammar, usage, and consistency issues. I catch tiny details that may slip your mind over time. I make sure you use style standards for numbers, a character's physical description stays the same, names are consistent, and more. I also do research to keep your real-life details accurate.

During your revisions, errors can slip past your keen eye, and it's all right. That's why I'm here.

What genres do you edit?

I don't restrict myself to any specific genre, but I enjoy working on the following:

Pagan History
New Age
Sexual Health
Alternative Lifestyles Research
Science Fiction/Fantasy
Psychological Thrillers
Horror
Paranormal (not Romance)
Erotica

Style Guides

When it comes to editing your book, it takes an understanding of popular writing styles, common usages in verbal dialogue or internal, and so on. But how are you supposed to know what is acceptable and what's not in literature?

I use Chicago Manual of Style (always the current edition), Merriam-Webster unabridged, and occasionally the Oxford American Dictionary. That should speak volumes of how you're getting your money's worth with me.

"So, what is a line edit?"

Line edits go a step further than copy edits do. As described by The Book Designer, line editing involves rewriting sentences to improve flow and readability. Moving portions of your writing around maintains continuity. Your voice is preserved while also enhancing it.

Here are a few examples of what I look for when determining whether you need a line edit:

  • All your sentences are about the same length.

  • You use a lot of adjectives.

  • The vocabulary isn’t suited to the intended audience.

  • Your meaning is lost in too many big words or jargon.

  • Transitions from one paragraph to the next are awkward.

The Book Designer says it best: "Effective writing has a rhythm and pulse, and with practice, good writers learn to develop an ear for these qualities. A line editor can help you hone these skills."

"I just need a proofreader."

Proofreaders come at the very last step of your book, before going to print or live as an ebook. I look for formatting issues, typos, repeated words, spelling, and punctuation. I will view your book in the desired ebook app or as a PDF if it will be printed. It's better to let me find these issues before you have readers pointing them out.

Microsoft Word and Track Changes

I use Microsoft Word and Track Changes for your manuscript. This allows you to keep any and all changes which make sense to your work of art. ï»¿
