Rates

My rates fall on the low side of the industry because I'm still building my business. So the following are rates per each service.

Please note: These are base prices only. For a more detailed estimate, please book a consultation and then email a 4-page sample to me. Once I have looked over the sample, we can discuss your needs at our consultation call.

How Long Will It Take?

Timing for complete edit of an entire manuscript depends on the number of words, the amount of editing required, and my work queue. So SCHEDULE EARLY!

I require the manuscript for a minimum of four weeks, unless other arrangements are made in advance. This gives me enough of a buffer for unforeseen circumstances or if an author is late for any reason. This allows me to continue working to meet my other clients' deadlines. My average time for editing is around 1000 words per hour. The more time I have, the more accurate my editing will be.

However, if you give me a date you need it, I'll do my best to get it back to you.

In a RUSH?

I do charge an additional fee for rush services equal to 50% of standard rates. Example: If my base rate is $600, the rush fee will be $300 additional.

Minimum rush fee of $200.

I have limited space for rush edits, so please schedule ahead of time.

Phone calls

Here at The Book Owl it's only me, so we’ll rarely have phone calls. Preferring email for documentation, phone calls will be billed at $30 per hour (payable in advance) and only at Editor’s discretion. Please understand that I need to remain focused on the current editing project, making phone calls difficult for me when they become frequent.

Discounted rates for repeat clients & referrals.

*Prices may vary based on the amount of editing needed.

Once I receive your manuscript and discover that you've failed to do basic self-edits, which makes my job longer, I may apply additional fees such as a higher per K rate or an additional hourly rate. So make sure you've done your homework to save money!

Anytime I can offer a discount, I will—especially for repeat clients. â€‹I offer payment plans.

Some things to know about pricing & discounts:

  • Bundle Discounts for editing/proofreading packages or multiple books.

  • Once editing begins, if I find more serious issues, I reserve the right to charge additional fees as necessary: either higher cost per word, a flat fee, or an hourly rate of $30 per hour.

  • Higher rates for nonfiction, anthologies, chapter by chapter edits, rush jobs, etc.

  • Weekly/bi-weekly/monthly payment plans available for nominal fee. Plan ahead.

  • Discounts available when entire package is paid in advance.

  • I love giving discounts, and I'm sure you love getting them. Book a consultation and let's discuss your options.

My fees might be lower than some, or higher than others, but my editing services are thorough, perhaps even more so than many who charge double. Don't let others take advantage of you, and make sure the editing is thorough.

Guarantee

While my goal is to provide you with a manuscript that is error-free, I can’t guarantee that your book will be perfect. Every book has errors, and many manuscripts go through extensive edits with multiple eyes combing through them. What I can guarantee to you is a clean manuscript with few grammatical errors.
